One Dead, One Seriously Injured in Kenosha County Crash

On Thursday, May 5, at approximately 5:00 PM, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of County Highway KR at US Route 45. A Flight For Life helicopter also responded.

The investigation revealed that a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, driving westbound on County Highway KR failed to stop for the stop sign at US 45. The Jetta was struck by a Buick Rainier driving northbound on US 45, with no stop sign since the intersection is only a two-way stop.

Steve J. Savas, an 83-year old man, of Union Grove, WI, was identified as the driver of the 2008 VW Jetta. Savas was trapped in his vehicle for a period of time and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the Buick Rainier was identified as a 31-year old woman named Jodi A. Belanger, of Union Grove, WI. Belanger suffered significant injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Froedtert Hospital by Flight For Life.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
