Officials: Remains discovered in Kenosha confirmed to be 41-year-old Green Bay man

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The remains of a person discovered by the Kenosha Police Department last week have now been identified by officials.

In a news release Tuesday, Kenosha police confirm they belong to 41-year-old Christopher Belanger, the Green Bay man who went missing in early September.

Officials said they located the remains in a "wooded area west of the 7600 block of 60th Ave." on Oct. 17 around 3 p.m.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body," the release said.

Belanger was last seen filling a prescription at a Walgreens in Kenosha on Sept. 8.

His family held a press conference on his disappearance Oct. 15 outside of the Green Bay Police Department.

Days later, they held a search party for Belanger in the area where his cell phone had last pinged.

"He's a fantastic friend and a loving father and grandfather," his older brother Paul told CBS 58 earlier. "He's the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back and not think twice about what it meant to him."

Police are still actively investigating what happened. If you have any information, please contact the Kenosha Police Department Detective Bureau at (262) 605-5203 or the Kenosha Area Crime Stoppers at (262) 656-7333.
