OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A tactical situation in Oak Creek turns into an officer-involved shooting Tuesday. 

During a press conference, Oak Creek Police said officers responded to the area of E. American Avenue and 8th Avenue to follow up on an armed robbery that happened earlier in the day at the Meijer gas station on S. Howell Avenue. 

When squads arrived on scene, police say the suspect ran into a home and officers attempted negotiations. Oak Creek Police said during the negotiations, the suspect pointed a gun at officers and officers fired at the suspect. The suspect was hit once in the arm and taken to an area hospital. According to Oak Creek Police, the suspect is in stable condition. 

Police say they recovered the suspect's firearm at the scene and no officers were injured. 

Three officers were involved in the incident, one with 12 years of service and the other two officers each having four years. 

The investigation is ongoing and the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team has been called in to investigate the officer-involved shooting. 

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is comprised of the Milwaukee Police Department, South Milwaukee Police Department, Greenfield Police Department, Waukesha Police Department, Franklin Police Department, Wauwatosa Police Department, West Allis Police Department, Glendale Police Department, and Cudahy Police Department. The lead investigative agency is the Milwaukee Police Department. 

During the press conference, Oak Creek Police said the case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for charges. Any witnesses are asked to call police 414-762-8200.

OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Oak Creek Police confirm that they are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting.

According to police, a tactical incident resulted in the shooting.

It happened on American Avenue in Oak Creek. 

The Chief is expected to brief the media at 4:30 p.m.
