Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer Shot While Parked

CHICAGO (CBS CHICAGO) — A Chicago Police officer is recovering Sunday night after being shot, after work and when someone drove up to his vehicle.

The officer was parked when he was shot.

CBS2’s Lauren Victory, reports a witness, who captured the shooting on video, and didn’t want to be identified, said he heard about four or five shots.

The officer had just gotten off of work and was headed home in a personal car. He slowed down to let another vehicle pass, and shots flew his way.

The off-duty cop returned fire, but people in the other car sped off. Police said the officer received a graze wound to his arm and was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but is expected to be OK.

His fellow officers combed through the area in the daylight for clues.

“I don’t know what to say anymore, it’s just sad,” The witness said to CBS Chicago. “He’s trying to go home to his family and he almost didn’t make it home.”
