OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- During the month of November, the Oak Creek-based company, Stella & Chewy's, announced they'll pay people back after they adopt a senior dog or cat from any shelter in the United States.

According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year. An overwhelming majority of those animals are under the age of one year old – leaving a staggering number of senior pets longing for the comfort and warmth of a forever home.

In honor of National Adopt a Senior Pet Month, Stella & Chewy's announced Thursday, Nov. 7, the company's pledge to cover the cost of adoption fees for dogs and cats four years and older.

The initiative hopes to spotlight the benefits of rescuing a senior pet and drive as many senior pet adoptions as possible.
