Nine-year-old drives car four miles with four-year-old as passenger

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A nine-year-old takes a car on a joy ride with a four-year-old as passenger.


The Washington County Sheriff's Office started receiving 911 calls shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday reporting that two young children has taken a car from the parking lot of a boat dealership located on State Highway 33 just west of the City of West Bend.


Several of the callers followed the children as the car headed west on State Highway 33 and then south on State Highway 144.


Witnesses were able to get the car to stop and turned it off in the area of State Highway 44 and County Highway K.


Officers arrived on scene and found that the nine-year-old and four-year-old were the only ones in the car.


The children said that the wondered away from their home in the City of West Bend and were trying to get to their grandmother's house on State Highway 144.


They had driven about four miles. No one was injured and there was no damage to the car or any property.


No charges are being filed by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.


The West Bend Police Department and the Washington County Human Services Department will be doing follow-up investigations with the children.
