9 ducklings rescued from Wisconsin storm drain and reunited with mother
SKEDADDLE HUMANE WILDLIFE CONTROL PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (CBS 58) - Nine newly hatched ducklings have been reunited with their mother after a scary situation.
The ducklings recently hatched in a school courtyard in Pleasant Prairie, then later fell through a storm drain on the property.
Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control showed up to the school after a counselor had contacted them concerned about the ducklings being unable to escape the enclosed courtyard before predators could reach them.
When the Skedaddle technicians had arrived, the situation became urgent when they discovered all nine ducklings in the storm drain. The technicians were able to safely remove the ducklings and reunite them with their mother.
The ducklings and their mother were transported and released at a nearby pond.
“This is a very common situation in Wisconsin during duck nesting season,” said Marcus Mueller, owner of Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control in Milwaukee, per their press release. “Mother ducks often choose courtyards and other protected spaces because they're safe places to incubate eggs. Unfortunately, those same locations can become traps once the duckling's hatch. In this case, the ducklings were unlikely to survive without assistance, and we're grateful the school reached out before it was too late.”
The rescue team says this serves as a reminder to the public to always be on the lookout for wildlife near your home, school, or business especially as nesting season gets underway.
