Students at Nicolet High School are pushing the boundaries of what many consider classical music and they're doing it with some professional help.
Hanna Hurwitz is a Nicolet graduate who is now a professional concert violinist.
She's spending this week working with the school's current music students, preparing a new concerto called 'The Little Bird.'
This piece challenges the young musicians to play their violins in unusual ways at times.
"You might use the wood of the bow to either bounce it on the strings or bounce it behind the bridge. You can also, I don't do this in my part, but the orchestra does things like where they're bouncing all along the fingerboard," said Hanna Hurwitz, the Artist in Residence.
This concerto was written by another Nicolet alum, Yotam Haber.
The students will perform it's premiere on Thursday night.
