MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A new mobile COVID-19 testing site opened in Milwaukee on Tuesday, December 29.
The site is located at Custer Stadium next to Barack Obama School, however, it won’t be permanent.
The site will be at Custer Stadium for at least two weeks before being moved by the health department to hot spot areas.
It is one of two free mobile testing sites the city plans to open. The other will be on Milwaukee’s south side.
The testing is being done by a private company contracted by the city. This is different from the other area testing sites run by the National Guard and the Department of Health Services.
For the mobile testing, the company can bill the patient’s health insurance or if they don’t have health insurance, it will be covered by CARES Act funding.
CBS 58 spoke to people who came to get tested Tuesday morning.
“Actually I’m taking this very seriously since two of my Vietnam -- I’m a war veteran and so were they -- so once it took my last partner, it became very real and serious to me,” Grover Hicks said.
The site is open from 8 a.m. to noon on weekdays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekends.
