MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's been a few years since they printed newspapers at the old Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel building at 4th and State.
As of Tuesday, Aug. 17, that classic downtown structure has a new function.
It just reopened as the Westown Green apartments for students at nearby Milwaukee Area Technical College.
Mayor Tom Barrett, a former paper boy, is pleased to see the renovation.
"This clearly is, I think, a building that has a significance to our community, and it should be preserved," said Mayor Barrett.
"This is a housing development that is intended to provide high quality, affordable -- and by affordable, I specifically mean rent-restricted housing, targeted specifically to students," said Westown Green developer Josh Jeffers.
Tuesday marked the opening of Westown Green.
MATC's fall semester begins next week.
