VILLAGE OF HALES CORNERS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A dedication ceremony was set to take place in the Village of Hales Corners Thursday afternoon, Oct. 26, for a new health department facility.
The health department has been fully remodeled with a private clinic area after decades of operating in a single room inside Hales Corners Public Library.
Officials said it's been this way since the facility opened in 1984, and even during the covid-19 pandemic. It became very clear that the site was not adequate to serve the residents of the village.
Therefore, the village bought the site back in January for $226,000.
The new centrally located site promises to be more accessible to seniors, disabled citizens and those with a lower income who live in more densely populated areas.
Rep. Bob Donavan, Sen. Julian Bradley, County Board Supervisor Patty Logsdon, a representative of Bryan Steil’s office, and members of the State of Wisconsin Dept. of Health Services were expected to be present at the ceremony.
"We took a commercial property on Highway 100 and converted it into something that will serve our community for decades," said Sandy Kulik, the village's administrator and clerk.
