New Berlin's annual Veterans Day Ceremony moved outdoors amid ongoing pandemic

NEW BERLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- New Berlin Mayor Dave Ament will conduct the city's annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. at the New Berlin Veterans Memorial.

The venue has been moved outdoors at the corner of Casper Drive and National Avenue due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Casper Drive, in front of the Veterans Memorial, will be closed for the ceremony.

“Due to safety concerns, we moved the venue to outdoors. We preferred not to go strictly virtual and would never consider cancelling the event entirely,” Mayor Ament said. “I encourage all residents to dress warmly and join us for this time-honored tradition honoring those who have served this Country. The serenity of the Veterans Memorial site should be quite lovely in the evening hours.

The ceremony will include participation from the New Berlin Hoeppner Horn VFW Post 5716 and the New Berlin Community Band. Street light pole banners will be presented to the servicemen and their families who participated in the city's Celebrate Our Local Military heroes initiative.

Parking will be available along Casper Drive, Stigler Drive, and in the parking lot of Malone Park. Limited seating will be made available to attendees. The city is encouraging residents to bring their own lawn chairs.
