MUSKEGO, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An act of kindness can go a long way. Local contractors and non-profits honored a local veteran for his service -- with a service of their own.

Sunshine and power tools can go a long way for a group of contractors.

“We were supposed to pull up Tuesday morning and it’s been a pretty lousy week," said David Charlebois, the project manager for Weather Pro Exteriors. “This roof is a simple one-day ranch home.”

Every nail, hammer, and saw gets the closer to their goal.

“Find it just exhilarating to meet him and be a part of this project," said Charlebois.

A new roof, for U.S Navy Veteran David Wujcik.

“Last time dad put it in, he was alive, back in about 95," said Wujcik.

For 60 years, Wujcik has lived in this corner home in Muskego, Wisconsin.

“Means a lot to be able to keep our home," said Wujcik.

Now, with these new repairs, he hopes to keep it in the family for 60 more.

"It’s really emotional for me because I never thought I’d have this type of help," said Wujcik.

Weather Pro, along with Owens Corning and Habitat for Humanity, provides low-income veterans with a new roof at no cost. It's called the Owens Corning Roof Deployment project.

“Something for someone who has done so much for us," said Charlebois.

For David, this isn't just a new roof.

“I feel proud. To have the house looking really good again. It’ll be nice," said Wujcik.

It's a way to keep the foundations his father laid down, decades before.

“He’d love it. He would just love it," said Wujcik.
