MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- A new mural dedicated to 2x NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is hitting one of Milwaukee's main streets. The mural can be found outside of the 600 East building on Wisconsin Avenue. The artist behind the mural, Mauricio Ramirez, said it will be a symbol of pride for the city.
The project is a collaboration between the Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Downtown Bid#21 and 600 East.
"Giannis has a personality that's larger than life and we hope that this mural captures his essence," said Gabriel Yeager of Milwaukee Downtown Bid#21.
The mural stands at three stories high. The artist said that it will take over 100 hours to complete the project and over 100 cans of spray paint will be used.
Ramirez said the mural will bring more vibrancy to the city.
"This wall could’ve been a blank beige wall but now it has a message," said Ramirez.
That message being, if you work hard you will go far. With every stoke and every color, Ramirez said this project hits deeper, saying Giannis represents the American Dream.
"Just like Giannis's worth ethic you know he came here and wanted to provide a better future for his family. It's an honor to highlight that aspect and to be painting a mural of him," said Ramirez.
The mural is expected to be completed next week.
