Thursday night the Red Cross recognized the heroes at its centennial brave hearts event.

This year Alec Taczala from Mukwonago was honored as the youth hero.

He was on spring break in Florida with his family when he helped revive a six-year-old boy who he saw at the bottom of a pool.

Alec's mother said she was not surprised by her son's quick action.

Alec said he is now dedicated to saving lives, and is working on becoming an EMT.
