MU Law School Poll: Walker leads Burke 48%-41%

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University Law School poll released new findings about Wisconsin's race for Governor and other political issues still being debated across the state.


According to the poll, Republican Governor Scott Walker is leading Democratic challenger Mary Burke, 48%-41%. Walker held a 47%-41% lead over Burke during the poll released in January.


This poll also asked respondents about their thoughts on Governor Walker's job performance. 47% of respondents approve of the job Governor Walker is doing while an equal 47% of respondents disapproved. Governor Walker's performance took a three point hit since the poll released in January.


Governor Walker gained support from a majority of respondents when it came to his $500 million tax cut plan. 55% approved while 34% opposed the tax reduction. 58% of voters polled believes these tax cuts will do more to help the wealthy.


The law school poll suggests wide support to requiring voters to show identification before voting. 60% of responding voters say they favor Voter ID while 36% oppose requiring voters to present Identification before voting. In May 2012, 61% supported Voter ID while 37% opposed it.


The law school poll says 52% of responding voters oppose the legalization of marijuana. In their poll released in October 2012, the law school's poll said it 45% opposed it.
