MPS teacher lives out dream of being on 'The Price Is Right'
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The price was right for one Milwaukee Public School teacher.
"I'd like to say hi to my husband Jim, my kids Will, Kate, Zach and Micheal, everybody in Whitefish Bay, Milwaukee, Wisconsin," The Price is Right contestant Mary Seewald said while spinning the wheel on the CBS game show, "The Price Is Right."
Seewald has dreamt of being on television's longest-running game show since she was a little girl.
"Utter shock, I could not believe it; you can see it on my face in the episode," Seewald said about the moment she was called on to compete.
The Summer-themed episode aired on Wednesday, coincidentally the same day her family holds their weekly get-together. They hosted a watch party and pasta night to celebrate Seewald.
"It was amazing, that's been her dream for years, and I love to see my Mary do that. She's been the traveler and all. She's been preparing for this all her life," Seewald's mother Mary Desing said.
"It's such a great experience for me, and then to share it with everybody is pretty special," Seewald said.
She tugged at her ear when shouting out her hometown on national television.
"We have mom's friend group, and they said, 'If you get on, say hello to us, and tug your ear.' So, I had to do that for them," Seewald explained.
The price was right for the teacher with 37 years under her belt at MPS. She left the game with a weeklong trip to Asia, a camera and lawn furniture.
"Once I got called, I was not nervous at all because I'd been watching the game show. I've been taping it and doing my lessons trying to get the prices," she said. "I was trying to memorize my car and grocery store prices."
Though she did not make it to the showcase, she said it was an unforgettable experience.
"This was like a family affair when I got on. It was so cool. I've watched the show forever," Seewald said.
