MPS suspends high school winter sports indefinitely amid virus surge

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Public Schools has suspended all winter high school sports indefinitely.

In a letter sent to families, MPS Commissioner of Athletics, Bobbie Kelsey, cited the increase in COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin.

"It is our top priority to keep our students and staff safe during this public health crisis," Kelsey said. "Please know this was an extremely difficult decision made with safety as our guiding principle."

The letter says MPS will continue to evaluate conditions to determine if they are able to start the season at a later date.
