MPS Superintendent expected to finish school year

Milwaukee School Board to discuss future plans on how they will move forward, if signs a new contract with Baltimore City Schools. Dr. Gregory Thornton announced yesterday that he will accept the job as C-E-O of Baltimore City Schools. Dr. Thornton has not formally submitted his letter of resignation to M-P-S. Until that happens, Dr. Thornton is still the acting Superintendent, according to School Board President Michael Bonds.

Wednesday night's special meeting at M-P-S headquarters went into an executive session, and closed off to the public. Since Dr. Thornton has not submitted a letter of resignation, the district is in a tough spot.

\"It puts the district in a situation where it has to prepare for a transition. But at the same time, nothing has been finalized yet, and he has not formally accepted a contract in Baltimore yet. It's somewhat of a limbo. But in the meantime, the board has to move forward.\" Says Michael Bonds.

Bonds said a final decision has not been made yet.
