MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Public School (MPS) leaders and supporters held a news conference Friday to outline their strong objections to the GOP-crafted state shared revenue plan.
They outlined several specific complaints, including the requirement that MPS must station 25 officers in schools and that the system must collect information on criminal violations that happen on school property.
"This clearly will not benefit the taxpayers of Milwaukee," said Marva Herndon, MPS School Board president. "It clearly has racist overtones, as Milwaukee has the largest minority population in the state."
Herndon says the shared revenue requirements would "cripple" MPS' ability to educate all children in the manner they deserve.
