MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The annual MPD Walk & Roll event took place Thursday, June 29.
Kids got safety lessons from officers, free bike adjustments from sponsors, and prize giveaways. Some kids even got to leave with new bikes.
There were a couple of goals here -- to provide positive contact between the kids and the cops, and to encourage young people to put down the video games and get physically active.
"It's no longer the easy option that it was, you know, in the past, because those video games, those phones are right there, right?" said MPD Assistant Chief Nicole Waldner. "It's the quickest, it's the easiest, but this, getting out, getting your blood pumping and your heart going and feeling better, this is helpful."
Walk & Roll included a 2K walk, live music, a food truck and provided smiles all around.
