MPD: 52-year-old killed after being shot in car near 7th and Mitchell
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are searching for a person who shot and killed someone in their car on the city's south side in broad daylight.
"This person is someone's loved one and now they can't make it home today," said Fidel Sierra, a property owner in the area.
Surveillance video CBS 58 News obtained along S. 7th Street and Mitchell shows people watching in horror as a car crashes into a pole.
"It's a little crazy, you know, there's normal people and kids walking," said Sierra. "It happened around school hours, too. There's only a school a block from here, so to see families with their kids and going home, people getting off from work, it’s a little scary."
Milwaukee police say a 52-year-old was in their car when a suspect fired shots, hitting and killing them. MPD is searching for an unknown suspect. The surveillance video after that car crashed shows a person getting out of the car and running away.
"It's sad… just sad," said Matthew Jones, who has lived in the area for years.
Jones says he was inside the laundromat nearby, when someone ran in yelling to call 911.
"I didn’t know what was going on and he just said something 'gun'… and I was just like, wow," said Jones. "That’s when I stepped outside and seen what was going on and I couldn’t believe it."
Jones says he was terrified at the scene in front of him and uneasy to find a person shot and killed in broad daylight.
"I was scared because a bullet could have went in there and caught me," said Jones.
Residents say crime in the area is becoming normal, causing them to become concerned for their safety and their loved ones
"Shootings, it's sad to say, it's become normal in Milwaukee, but it shouldn’t be something normal and it's sad because there's a lot of kids," said Sierra. "I have kids and it's sad to see something like this become normal."
