Mount Pleasant Woman Hits Neighbor's Garage while Backing Out of Her Own
On January 16 at 8:50 AM, Mount Pleasant Police Officers were dispatched to the Primrose Community Complex at 1775- N. Newman road in the Village of Mount Pleasant for a reported personal injury accident involving a vehicle striking a house/garage at that location.
When police arrived, an 87-year-old female driver was located inside her vehicle, which had come to rest inside a garage after impacting that garage.
According to police, it appears the woman was backing out of her garage, which is located directly south of the crash scene. As she attempted to back up onto the driveway of her residence, she accelerated rapidly out of her driveway. The woman crossed the road, drove onto the neighbor's driveway, hit the garage door, continued through the garage door, and hit the car parked inside before coming to a stop in the garage.
Rescue personnel were able to remove the female operator from the vehicle. She was treated at the scene by personnel, declining transport to the hospital. Heavy damage was done to the operator’s vehicle, as well as the attached garage. Minor damage was done to the vehicle parked inside the garage
Mount Pleasant building inspection department was notified to follow-up with the homeowner of the damaged attached garage, to check the structural integrity.
The incident is considered a private property crash, with no citations issued.
