Motorcycle enthusiasts bike cross-country to Milwaukee ahead of Harley-Davidson's 120th anniversary celebration
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The roar of Harley-Davidson engines will fill the streets of Milwaukee as their 120th anniversary kicks off Thursday.
Bikers are riding in from across the country and from around the world to be a part of the celebration.
Some motorcycle enthusiasts said it's not always about the destination, but it's about the journey.
"They're really just taking in America, and that’s really what this is about. Take in our country, this beautiful country that we have, and there is no better way to see it than behind the bars of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle," said Christopher Harrison, regional HOG manager with Harley-Davidson.
Harrison is making a 3,500-mile commute from Kansas City, Kansas out to Portland, Oregon, then to the Cream City.
He's not alone, Harrison is joined by hundreds of other bikers taking on the open road, riding from different corners of the country.
Harley-Davidson is offering six official routes for bikers to join from a southeast and west route, a northeast and west route, and even a Canada east and west route.
Harrison went on to say these rides build community.
"It is a culture, it's a lifestyle, it's a brotherhood, sisterhood, it is an all-inclusive. You have a common bond that almost can't be broken."
Harrison is expected to ride into Milwaukee Wednesday along with the other six motorcycle convoys.
In total, the bikers in the convoys will ride more than 12,000 miles to visit Milwaukee.
