MLK Day of Service with Americorps and MPS at Rufus King School
More than 450 volunteers beautified Rufus King International Middle School Monday to mark MLK Day.
City Year, a national organization dedicated which provides AmeriCorps trained mentors for MPS students help mobilize the efforts.
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin was also on hand to offer words of inspiration and pick up a paint brush.
"This Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service creates a positive impact on our students, families and community," said Principal Tamera Ellis. "Rufus King is grateful for all the volunteers who came together to add inspirational murals to some of the blank walls of our new location."
100 City Year Milwaukee corpse members serve full-time at 11 MPS Schools to provide individualized academic and social support to students at high risk of dropping out.
Their motto: "Give a year. Change the world."
