Cosetta Burrell is charged with first-degree reckless injury, physical abuse of a child, possession of a firearm by a felon, fleeing an officer, felony bail jumping and multiple counts of recklessly endangering safety. The complaint states the shooting happened Friday, July 17 near 60th and Silver Spring.

The boy told detectives he was approached by a woman who got out of a white SUV and fired at him, shooting him in the leg, the complaint states. Witnesses reported hearing five or six shots.

The dispute reportedly started with an argument between the boy and a group of children selling water on a nearby median.

One of the shots entered a nearby home where several children were inside, including a 2-month-old, the complaint states. No one inside was hurt.

Deputies found the vehicle using Flock camera technology and attempted a traffic stop, prompting a pursuit that reached 83 mph before officers ended it with a PIT maneuver, according to the complaint. Four children between the ages of 7 and 12 were in the vehicle at the time and were not physically injured.

Burrell has prior felony convictions, including physical abuse of a child, and was released on extended supervision July 7, the complaint states.

Her preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 28 at 1:30 p.m.
