MILWAUKEE (CBS58)--Milwaukee Police are searching for the suspect who shot and killed two people late Friday night. It happened near 34th and Hampton. Family identified one of the victims as 23-year-old Kenyatta Cox also known as Kennie Lu.
“He was a good person, I helped raise him every since he was a baby," Tamiko Tharp-Charlot said. Tharp-Charlot is Cox's aunt.
“For somebody to take his life like that, he had big dreams.”
Milwaukee Police say Cox and a 22-year-old woman was shot to death while sitting in a parked car.
It happened just after midnight near 34th and Hampton streets.
Saturday night, Jan 1, family and friends held a vigil at the shooting scene.
“Everyone was close to Kennie, he would give you the shirt off his back and it hurts that he is gone now.” Taranda Westmoreland said. She is Cox's cousin.
"Why is it so easy for someone to pull the trigger and kill somebody because they not coming back, they not, they not coming back at all and for them to take my nephew and her life, they didn’t have no remorse," Tharp-Charlot said.
Cox was a well-known rapper.
Tharp-Charlot says his mom moved to Georgia so he could purse his music career.
He would travel back to Milwaukee to perform at shows.
“What did he do to deserve that because all he was doing was making his music videos.” 3:32
Cox leaves behind a five-year-old daughter.
