Milwaukee Public Works Committee to address recent water main breaks

MILWAUKEE -- With more than 60 water main breaks reported since Saturday, city residents are wondering when the seemingly constant stream of problems will slow down.

The city's Public Works Committee will give an update Wednesday morning at City Hall.

A water main leak outside of the Texas Avenue pumping station in Bay View affected normal activities at the station.

The station delivers water to the Howard Avenue Treatment Plant, and Saturday's leak in Bay View forced the Howard Avenue plant to close.

The entire city is now relying on a single source of water, being drawn from the Linwood Treatment Plant.

The extra pressure on the water mains has already proved to be too much for the city's aged infrastructure, resulting in more than 60 water main breaks throughout the city since Saturday.

Alderwoman Milele Coggs requested the update, and says residents want to know what led to the problems and when and how they will be fixed.

Stay tuned for updates from Matt Doyle on Wednesday's meeting.
