Milwaukee Public Museum marks Hispanic Heritage Month with dance and artisan showcases

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Public Museum will host a series of events honoring Hispanic Heritage Month, running Sunday, Sept. 15 through Tuesday, Oct. 15. The series is set to include cultural performances, artisan demonstrations and educational information, all included with general admission.
Celebración Latina: Cultivating Raíces (Roots), is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20. It will feature performances by the Afro-Latin and Caribbean dance group Cultura Viva at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Steigleder Special Exhibits Gallery.
A second event, Celebración Latina: Hands-on Heritage, will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Latino artisans will lead activities such as metal embossing, macramé and embroidery.
Throughout the month, educators will offer learning opportunities on topics including the history of Latinos in Milwaukee, the cultural significance of chocolate and the migration of monarch butterflies.
