MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A Milwaukee-area native is confirmed dead in the attacks on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka.

Dieter Kowalski was an employee of Pearson and had arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka on a business trip.

Kowalski's mother spoke to CBS 58, saying she received a call from the embassy Sunday evening. She said her son was waiting in line for breakfast when he was killed.

Hours earlier, Kowalski posted on Facebook saying how excited he was to be going to the country for another work trip. He was currently living in Denver. His mom said she just visited her son last week. She said they had plans for the summer.

Kowalski graduated from Riverside University High School in 1997 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001.

The CEO of Pearson released a statement on Kowalski's death, describing him as a big-hearted and full-spirited man. Kowalski was the senior leader of a technical services team.
