Milwaukee Mayor Johnson sets goal of reducing traffic deaths to zero with 'Vision Zero' action plan

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson on Thursday, June 23, signed a resolution committing Milwaukee to becoming a "Vision Zero" community -- setting a goal of reducing traffic deaths to zero.

"For far too long, traffic fatalities have been accepted as the inevitable. they're just gonna happen. And community members should accept that. I think that's not the approach we should have in Milwaukee," said Mayor Johnson.

The action plan promises to tackle the problem from several angles, including safer street design, law enforcement and better driver training.

Dozens of cities across the country have committed to the Vision Zero effort.
