Milwaukee man to be deported and pay back over $1 Million after tax fraud

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- 29-year-old Milwaukee man Dimas Chavez-Pina pleaded guilty to theft of government money and aggravated identity theft. Chavez-Pina agreed to pay over $1 Million in restitution to the IRS.

Chavez-Pina also agreed to be voluntarily deported from the United States and return to Mexico due to his lack of legal status in the United States.

The defendant fraudulently applied for individual tax id numbers from the IRS for citizens from Mexico and then filed fraudulent returns using those tax id numbers,

Between 2011 to June, 2014 Chavez-Pina received $1,058,827.69 in U.S. Treasury refund checks from his scheme. 

Chavez-Pina will be sentenced on May 1 and faces a mandatory minimum two years in prison.
