Milwaukee man on roof of vacant house arrested after attempting to steal metal siding

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man is facing charges after causing over $5,000 in damages to a home.

Milwaukee Police were called to a home near 2nd and Townsend around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a theft.

The caller told police that there was a man tearing metal siding off of a vacant house.

When officers arrived on scene, they saw the man on the roof of the boarded up home.

The man told police that he had a contract to remove the siding but he was unable to provide any additional information.

He allegedly admitted to police that he would take metal to the scrap yard and had done this with several other vacant homes in the past.

According to the criminal complaint, the City owns the home and it would be going on auction soon. The majority of the siding was removed from the home, and the estimated damage to the home was between $8,000 - $10,000.
