Milwaukee man accused of stealing victim's phone, running him over with U-Haul

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man is now charged after allegedly stealing someone's phone and then running them over with a U-Haul.
Thirty-four-year-old Jamal Turner is charged with robbery with use of force and first-degree recklessly endangering safety for the incident that occurred Sunday morning, Aug. 3, around 3 a.m.
In court documents, the victim told police he was walking down the street near 37th and National when a man in a U-Haul asked if he could borrow his phone.
The victim said as he started dialing a number for the man- later identified as Turner- he grabbed the phone and began driving away with the victim hanging onto the driver's door of the U-Haul.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim tried grabbing for the phone, but Turner sped up, dragging the victim for several blocks. The victim eventually fell, and the U-Haul ran over his right leg. He was treated for injuries including "significant road rash" at an area hospital.
Prosecutors say the cellphone was found in Turner's pocket when he was pulled over later that day.
Turner is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 14.
