MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Have you ever considered using solar energy to power your home?
On Tuesday, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and other leaders gathered at a house with solar panels on Lake Drive to highlight the Grow Solar program.
We all know it can be expensive to switch to solar, but what Grow Solar does is employ a time-tested economic technique, buying as a group, and the mayor says it's working.
"The solar group buy program brings people together to exercise collective buying power and save on the total cost of going solar," said Mayor Johnson. " Since the first group buy program back in 2013, community members have invested over 1.7 megawatts of solar through the power of volume purchasing."
The Grow Solar program is open to residents and small businesses in Milwaukee County and offers free solar education and financing sessions.
