Milwaukee gears up for the World Cup

MILWAUKEE-- The World Cup kicks off in Brazil on Thursday and a handful of bars in the Milwaukee area are planning viewing parties for those soccer fans who want to watch but couldn't make it to Brazil for the big gig.

Nomad World Pub on Brady Street transformed for the month long celebration. The bar is known for showing soccer games all year round, but now they've added an outdoor patio and viewing area that they say, is inspired by the Favelas in Rio De Janeiro.

\"We like to give them (customers) an experience of the hosting country, this time it's brazil... so we took an iconic, brazilian thing of rio de janeiro, the Favelas, which are brightly colored and represent the culture of brazilian culture,\" said Michael Eitel, owner of Nomad World Pub.

Meanwhile, in Wauwatosa, Cafe Bavaria is getting geared up with drink specials. They will also be featuring a Brazooka Burger, named after the World Cup Soccer Ball.

Highbury Pub on Kinnickinnic Ave will also be showing the games every day, with a party tent open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

While Milwaukee Kickers Soccer club will host a family-friendly World Cup viewing party on June 22 for the U.S. vs. Portugal game at Uihlein Soccer Park located at 7101 W. Good Hope Road.
