MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Reducing the violence in Milwaukee is a task much easier said than done, but progress starts with helping each other in the community.
An "empowerment brunch" was held at the Skybox Sports Bar on MLK Drive Tuesday, Nov. 12.
It was meant to empower and support those affected by violence, especially gun violence.
One of those in attendance was the mother of Joe Jackson Jr., who was shot and killed back in June. She had a simple, yet powerful message.
"When you see something, know something, say something," she said. "Because it could be your loved one next. Because I never thought I'd be standing in this position, and I would never wish this on anyone."
She added that it felt good to be around other people who are going through the same struggles she is, especially as the holidays approach.
