MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- After a delay, the Milwaukee Election Commission certified the results of last Tuesday's election Monday, Nov. 11.
This was supposed to happen last Friday, but it was pushed back because of a hazmat scare at City Hall.
Certifying election results is a stepladder process where voting results start in Milwaukee and wind up in Madison.
"Those results have to be submitted to Milwaukee County, and it goes to the county commission who then certifies theirs with ours and then it just keeps going until we get to the state, where then the final results, the official results, are then tallied," said Milwaukee Election Commision Executive Director Paulina Gutierrez.
The certification process includes decisions on challenges at polling locations. It's also a public process. Anyone who wants to watch can do so.
