Milwaukee Department of Public Works preparing for weekend snow

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee’s Department of Public Works has already begun preparations for the weekend snow. They held a news conference Friday afternoon.

With icing possible Friday night, they’ve sent trucks out to prepare bridges, overpasses, and main arterials with brine.

On Saturday morning, salt trucks will be sent to residential streets to treat them before th snow starts falling.

Once the snow starts, 119 salt trucks will be out round the clock, working first to keep the main streets clear. The trucks can also plow as the snow starts piling up.

Garbage trucks are being fitted with plows in case they’re needed as well.

“As we go into Saturday, we will be monitoring conditions and if the snow accumulations start to exceed 2-3 inches, we will make the decision to call in the drivers of the garbage trucks to enhance our snow-fighting effort,” said Laura Daniels with Milwaukee’s Department of Public Works.

DPW is also reminding people to follow winter parking regulations posted on signs throughout the city.
