MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of two of their deputy K-9s.

K-9 Apollo, a Belgian Malinois-German Shepherd mix, served alongside Lt. B Lessila for approximately nine years, before retiring in the fall of 2022.

Apollo passed away at age 12 on April 25.

According to the MCSO, during his tenure, Apollo was trained in narcotics detection, handler protection, article/evidence searching and tracking, and earned accolades for many events.

Apollo helped track armed robbery suspects, including on busy streets and sidewalks, thick vegetation, and cluttered lawns.

According to the MCSO, Carlos spent the majority of his eight-year career working in the Milwaukee County Jail, with handler and partner, Officer B. Anderson. Carlos was trained in narcotics detection, patrol and apprehension.

"May their memories be a blessing and may both Apollo and Carlos rest in peace and play," the MCSO said in a Facebook post.
