Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputies Resuscitate Man at Airport

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call this morning at about 5:25 AM regarding a pulseless, non-breathing subject curbside at the airline ticketing area.

Deputies found the subject in a lane of traffic. The wife of the 69-year-old man indicated he had an internal defibrillator. Deputies attached an AED, delivered one shock, and began chest compressions. The man regained consciousness during their efforts, which they continued until the arrival of emergency medical unit personnel with the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Milwaukee Fire Department Med 17 continued life-saving measures and transported the subject to St. Luke’s Medical Center. At the time of transport, the man was breathing and had a heartbeat.

MFD Assistant Fire Chief Christopher McGowan commended the deputies saying, “Due to the deputies’ calm demeanor and swift actions, this patient was given the absolute best chance at surviving a potentially fatal cardiac emergency.”

During this incident, the airport ticketing drive was shut down and traffic was diverted to the baggage drive for about 15 minutes.
