Milwaukee County officials sign 2022 budget

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new budget for Milwaukee County was signed Friday, Nov. 12.

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson spoke on the budget's strengths.

Officials say the budget continues investments in families, public safety, mental health and housing.

While we were able to close our budget gap this year, and made much needed investments in parks and human services these gaps will persist because of a growing "structural deficit" and rising costs of state mandated services.

It also states 60 new clean diesel buses will be purchases and 11 electric buses for the east-west rapid transit line.

Nicholson says she is also working to secure a local sales tax in order to lower budget deficits.
