MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Formal charges have been filed against a 24-year-old Milwaukee man in connection with a fatal beating.
Police were called to the area of 8th and Greenfield on July 19 for a report of a battery.
Upon arrival, officials located a 44-year-old man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a criminal complaint, the person who called police had an on-again, off-again relationship with the victim.
The complaint says the two were drinking together on July 18, and an argument took place early July 19.
The person who called 911 told investigators, her on-again, off-again boyfriend started beating her up when another man -- identified as 24-year-old Damarius Wade -- intervened.
According to the complaint, Wade knocked the man down to the ground and started hitting him until he was "blue in the face."
Wade reportedly attempted CPR on the man before walking away.
A photo array was shown to the woman who called 911, and she identified Wade as the suspect.
Surveillance video from the scene, investigators say, also captured the incident.
Wade has been charged with one count of second-degree reckless homicide. He's due in court for an initial appearance on Aug. 16.
