Milwaukee County hosting Valentine's Day weddings at the Courthouse

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A number of Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judges and Court Commissioners will volunteer as officiants and preside over weddings at the Milwaukee County Courthouse on Valentine's Day.

The weddings will take place in Courtroom 500A at the Courthouse located at 901 N. 9th Street in Milwaukee.

Couples have already preregistered with the Milwaukee County Clerk of Court for their special day.

The wedding ceremonies will be performed in the morning between 9:00 a.m. and Noon and in the afternoon between 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

This tradition of a “special” wedding day began in the Milwaukee County Courts over a decade ago when the Chief Judge and staff decided to make it a special day by decorating a courtroom and providing sweets to couples who selected Valentine’s Day to exchange their wedding vows.

“The judges and commissioners are honored to serve as officiants and play their part in making this a joyous occasion for families as they focus on love and togetherness. Each year the judges and staff look forward to sharing time not just with the couples, but also with children, families and their guests.  Milwaukee County Clerk, George L. Christenson, and his staff have also played a key role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly by overseeing the administrative process for civil ceremonies, including licensing, fees and preregistration for the Valentine’s Day ceremonies at the Courthouse,” said Chief Judge Maxine Aldridge White.
