Milwaukee community picnic brings neighbors together despite smoky skies

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Smoky skies did not keep Milwaukee residents from coming together Friday for a day of fellowship and community resources.

Way of the Cross Missionary Baptist Church hosted a community picnic and resource fair, bringing together local organizations, leaders and families for the faith-based event.

Among those in attendance was Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, who said events like the picnic help build stronger neighborhoods by connecting residents with one another and with community resources.

"As mayor, I often say a strong city requires strong families," Johnson said. "It's time again that churches stand up and help work to make sure that we are meeting the needs of our neighbors, and today's event is another example of that happening right here in the City of Milwaukee."

The event also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, where children had the opportunity to ask the mayor about his hobbies and his favorite things to do in Milwaukee.
