Milwaukee Co. DA charges burglary suspect following River Hills police Facebook post

RIVER HILLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Hours after police in a Milwaukee suburb publicly criticized the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for not charging a burglary suspect, charges are filed.

Thursday morning, River Hills police posted on Facebook about a July incident where officers arrested a man in connection to a home burglary one day earlier.

Police say the suspect was found sleeping in the driver's seat of a stolen car. In that car, they also found prescriptions, paperwork and credit cards that were reported stolen.

Hours after the post, the DA's office charged 20-year-old Alan Hernandez-Meraz with one count of receiving stolen property.

In a statement to CBS 58, a spokesman for the DA's office says they never refused to file charges in the case.

He says as of las week, the DA's office was still talking to police about "additional investigative steps needed" in order to successfully prosecute the case.
