MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee churches are stepping up to try and make sure every baby in the city has a chance to grow up.
The "Strong Baby Sabbath" is coming up again this Sunday.
32 Milwaukee churches have agreed to become "strong baby sanctuaries," where pregnant women can get the information and help they need.
Last year, 9,200 babies were born in Milwaukee, and 99 died within their first year. That's why the faith community is ready to help.
"We train and partner members of the congregations, work with the pastors to identify individuals that can help us identify and discover women that need the resources that can help them ensure that they have a healthy delivery," said Bernie Sherry of Ascension Wisconsin.
A luncheon Wednesday celebrated the 32 churches that are taking on the role of strong baby sanctuaries.
