Milwaukee Brewers fans react after historic World Series win
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Pretty much every Milwaukee Brewers fan CBS 58 spoke with on Thursday was on cloud nine after the team's historic World Series win — from lifelong fans who have waited decades for this moment to a newer generation experiencing the power of the Brew Crew.
Many said even though it's been 44 years since the team's last appearance in the World Series, they never gave up hope, whether they were in the stands in Florida or packed into American Family Field for a sold-out watch party with more than 30,000 fans in attendance.
"That's what really gets to me, is how cool it is to see a new team, a young team, do so well," said Joe Oszuscik, who told CBS 58's Ellie Nakamoto-White he's been a fan for the last two decades. "The vibe was fantastic, the fans were even better, the team's amazing this year."
Ryan Packer said he's been waiting his entire life for the team to take home the trophy.
"I was 6 years old in 1982 when the Brewers made it to the World Series and then lost. It's one of my first memories, so my whole life, we've been waiting for this, and we got it!" Packer said.
For Emily Kinter, seeing the team win was "possibly a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
"It was absolutely amazing," Kinter said.
Cynthia Kartman was one of the tens of thousands of fans at the watch party Wednesday night.
"Oh man, it's still kind of sinking in," Kartman said. "One of the best things happening in your life with 30,000 of your best friends there with you."
James Woyak said he was thrilled when the final out was called.
"It's pretty crazy. My dad's happy about it, I'm happy about it, I can't wait for tomorrow. Go Brewers!" Woyak said.
For fans like Tony Spence, the celebrations aren't just about the win itself, but how the team got there in the first place.
"They play the game the right way, they play the game how you're taught as a kid. They play with hustle, they play with heart, and being a little guy, I think it's what makes the Brewers so special and so fun to watch because you can tell they were playing with their whole heart on their sleeve," Spence said. "Been watching the Brewers for the last 20 years, and for it to finally come true is literally the coolest feeling as a baseball fan and as a fan of the state of Wisconsin."
