MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In just two months, Milwaukee's lakefront will be full of booming aircraft and thrilling aerobatics.

The Milwaukee Air and Water Show returns July 27 & 28, 2024.

"It's a great way for people in the community to really see what we do," said Col. Chris Triplett of the 128th Refueling Wing.

Air shows mean a lot to Triplett and his colleagues.

"I went to air shows, and I went to watch the pilots and the air crew members fly the aircraft into the event, and that's what got me interested in it," Triplett said.

Now, his team inspires others right in their own backyard.

"Everybody that you see flying in those airplanes are all from the local area," Col. Triplett explained.

They're one of many groups participating in Milwaukee's Air and Water Show this summer.

"We are going to be doing an aerial demonstration which entails a couple of flyovers," Triplett said.

This year's lineup has teams from around the world.

"We have the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Demonstration Squadron, which is headlining the show, along with the Italian Air Force Aerobatic Team," said Paul Rogers, president of the Milwaukee Air and Water Show.

For the first time in six years, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team will join the show.

"For me, it's an honor to have our military perform in front of our citizens of Milwaukee County," Rogers said.

It's a chance to showcase special aviation and pay tribute to those that use it.

"Just look how smooth that beautiful grey bird flies through the sky," Col. Triplett said. "It takes a lot of maintainers, it takes a lot of support staff, it takes a lot of everybody to keep that aircraft flying."
