Military veteran claims $50,000 Powerball Prize after spending 8 years playing lottery

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A military veteran spent 8 years playing the lottery and has been choosing his and his wife's birthdays.

He claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize Thursday in Madison.

The retired man from Viola, population 707, matched four of five numbers plus the Powerball in the February 9 drawing.

Robert Hill purchased a ticket at Campbell’s One Stop in Soldiers Grove (Crawford County) and selected numbers 1, 2, 3, 7, and 39 and a Powerball of 25.

The Powerball win was one of four in Wisconsin on Feb. 9. Campbell’s One Stop will receive a $1,000 retailer incentive based on two percent of the prize amount.
